Each of these Leaderboard views will automatically show the top 50 stocks according to the filter across a variety of important metrics, including price (and price change), mentions (and mentions change), and sentiment -- you can even customize which columns are displayed to make it easier to focus on what matters most to you. Apply additional filters for date range (1, 7, 30, and 90 days), industry, and personalized filters for your watchlist.

How to Sort the Trending Stocks Leaderboard

There are four main sorts by which you can slice the leaderboard, all pertaining to mention volume or sentiment expressed about stocks in online news coverage. The four sorts are: Most Mentioned, Surging Mentions, Most Bullish, and Most Bearish. Here's how they work:

  • Most Mentioned: This is exactly what it sounds like: a list of the stocks with the most total mentions across online news coverage monitored by Uptrends over the given time period. This is in-terms of absolute mentions -- meaning the number of unique posts (ie. articles, tweets, blog posts) that have explicitly mentioned a given stock.
  • ‍Surging Mentions: Similar to the 'Most-Mentioned' list, the Surging Mentions list also ranks stocks in terms of their mention volume, but instead of absolute mentions, stocks are ranked by the percent increase in news coverage over the current period vs. the previous period. Stocks at the top of the list have had the biggest increase (or 'surge') in news coverage compared to the previous period (ie. day, week, month, or quarter). The Surging Mentions sort is what shows up by default on the Uptrends trending page.‍
  • Most Bullish: The Most Bullish list shows the stocks with the most positive (ie. 'bullish') average news sentiment over the given period. Sentiment is determined by measuring the amount of positive vs. negative language expressed about the stock across all sentences its mentioned in, either explicitly (ie. "Tesla stock looks good") or implicitly (ie. "the company [Tesla] looks good"). Sentiment is scored on a continuous scale from -1(negative) to +1 (positive) and presented in discrete terms (Very Bearish, Bearish, Neutral, Bullish, and Very Bullish).‍
  • Most Bearish: The Most Bearish list shows the stocks with the most negative (ie. 'bearish') average news sentiment over the given period. Again, sentiment is determined by measuring the amount of positive vs. negative language expressed about the stock across all sentences its mentioned in, either explicitly (ie. "Tesla stock looks bad") or implicitly (ie. "the company [Tesla] looks bad"). Sentiment is scored on a continuous scale from -1(negative) to +1 (positive) and presented in discrete terms (Very Bearish, Bearish, Neutral, Bullish, and Very Bullish).

How to Filter the Trending Stocks Leaderboard

There are three primary ways to filter the Uptrends Trending Stocks Leaderboard: by time-horizon, by industry / interest, and by column. Here's an outline of each filter type:

  • Time Horizon: You can filter the stocks displayed in the leaderboard by four time horizons: day, week (7 days), month (30 days), and quarter (90 days). Selecting any of these will update the mentions, price, and sentiment data displayed in the table and sort the stocks accordingly.
  • Industries and Interests: You can also filter the table by industry (more broadly referred to as 'interests'). This includes traditional industries like Energy, Health Care, Financial Services, etc. as well as more nuanced groups like Large Caps, Small Caps, Meme Stocks and more. You can also filter to personalized groups, for example: the stocks on your watchlist. Filtering to any of these groups will update the mentions, price, and sentiment data displayed in the table, and sort the socks accordingly.
  • Column Selection: Lastly, you can completely customize the columns displayed in the table based on your personal preferences. By default on a desktop screen, there are 9 columns displayed: Latest Price, Price Change %, Price Chart, Mentions, Mentions Change %, Mentions Chart, Sector, News Sentiment, and Alert Volume. Each of these columns can be toggled on or off. This is especially helpful for viewing on smaller (mobile) devices where tables can be more difficult to navigate. Simply select the columns you'd like to see and Uptrends will save your preferences.

Leaderboard Use Cases

Empower your investment strategy with Uptrends.ai's Trending Stocks Leaderboard. Tailored to deliver actionable insights, our Leaderboard equips you with the intelligence to execute a variety of investment tasks and strategies. Here are specific use cases that showcase the practical applications of this powerful feature:

  • ‍Identify Undervalued Stocks: Discover potential investment gems by filtering for 'Most Bearish' stocks with positive price changes. This unique juxtaposition can often reveal stocks that are undervalued by the market. These stocks might be experiencing temporary sentiment setbacks despite strong fundamentals, providing a buying opportunity for discerning investors.
  • ‍Compare Industry Sentiment: Utilize the Leaderboard to contrast the sentiment and mention volume of stocks within the same sector. By applying industry filters, you can perform a comparative analysis to identify which companies are the sentiment leaders and laggards. This analysis can inform sector-based investment decisions or highlight candidates for sector rotation.
  • ‍Monitor Earnings Surprises: Stay ahead with earnings announcements by sorting for 'Surging Mentions' during earnings season. A surge in mentions can indicate an earnings surprise, which may lead to significant price movements. By monitoring these surges, investors can swiftly react to earnings reports that outpace or fall short of market expectations.
  • ‍Tracking Alert Volume for Market Reactions: Evaluate the market’s reaction to news by observing alert volumes alongside price changes. A high alert volume with minimal price movement could suggest the market has not fully reacted, presenting an opportunity to anticipate market corrections or rallies.
  • ‍Spot Early Trend Reversals: Detect early signs of trend reversals by watching for shifts in news sentiment over different time horizons. A stock transitioning from 'Most Bearish' to 'Most Bullish' over consecutive time frames might be on the cusp of a trend reversal, potentially offering a strategic entry point for trend-following traders.
